The American Warrior Initiative (AWI) partnered with Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to honor a veteran with a grant. A “Boot Camp” was also held to educate real estate professionals on working with the home purchase needs of active duty and military veterans with excellence.
The honoree was Becky Woods Johnson who was awarded a $25,000 grant. Becky’s son, Lee Woods, was killed in action while serving in the United States Army. The grant was awarded to reconstruct their vandalized home. Additionally, community members such as contractors and suppliers donated labor amounting to thousands of dollars.
Becky is a member of Gold Star Mothers, an organization of mothers who have lost a child in the line of duty. Gold Star Mothers is a non-profit Veterans Service Organization that engages in efforts to continue to honor their children through service to veterans and patriotic events.
Branch Manager, Ruth Vogt, was honored to be able to participate in this wonderful event. She commented:
“In the mortgage business, we help families achieve the dream of homeownership. And we take it for granted. We need to support the military who protect not just the dream of homeownership, but protect the American dream!”
The American Warrior Initiative is the giving arm of Fairway. AWI seeks to ease the transition for U.S. veterans between military and civilian life. The mission of the American Warrior Initiative is to inspire, educate and give back to our military and their families.
